Fa’ida is a young Ghanaian who sells exquisite raw Shea butter in one of the narrow streets at the heart of Accra’s famed Makola Market. Her older sister sells African black soap. They both have nice stories to share and a joyful soul. #bulkshopping #MakolaMarket #MuslimCommunity #FirstTimeinGhana #workingmom #sheabutter
Meet the strong, empowered, educated and healthy Women of tomorrow’s Africa. Today we visited Acca Girls High School. We sat in classes on parenthood, menstruation, reproductive system, sex and health... This is avant-garde all over Africa, and pretty much for many countries around the globe. To see these smart teenagers speak eloquently and openly about these issues gives one the goose bumps. I didn’t want to leave this place (if it wasn’t for my other job as a mom and all that). These girls are learning to make the right choices about their bodies, their rights, their lives. They are setting the ground for the future parents, educators, scientists or writers they will become - willing to support even more the inclusion of Comprehensive sexuality education in schools, Government programs, community initiatives… @unesco ’s O3 program is a huge initiative that covers all of Sub-Saharan Africa. We launched it today and paved the way for further political commitment by more African counties. #CSEandME #O3Campaign #ESAcommitment #talkitout #accra #pioneers #girlpower #ourrightsourlivesourfuture #theafricawewant
That horrific moment you realize you forgot your bamboo straw in the hotel and almost cry staring at the plastic one in your delicious coconut milk drink 🥺 live and learn. On to another super spicy #ghanaianfood discovery: pepper spicy snails, delicious guinea fowl groundnut soup with an island of yummy fufu and some fried plantains (not featured here because they disappeared before the photo could be taken). #inlovewithmyafrica #weaternafricandelicousness #coconut #alwaysrememberyourbamboostraw #yummy #bukarestaurant #accra #firsttimeinghana
Ebunu ebunu is pure deliciousness. Spicy 🌶 but manageable for lighter palates. Ebunu ebunu literally means green green. It’s made of cocoyam leaves 🍃(that’s where the gorgeous green comes from), tomatoes, onions, and scotch bonnet peppers 🥵. The one in the photo is the vegetarian version. You can also add to it snails and seafood for a deeper flavor, and mushrooms too. 🍽 #ghanaianfood #accra #ebunuebunu #bitingonhotpeppers
Repost from @unwomen ・・・ Around the world, activism is in the air. Gender equality advocates are making their voices heard as they fight for inclusivity, intersectionality, justice, and ending discrimination and violence against women and girls. How are you taking action? 📷 Alicia Vera/Bloomberg via Getty Images . . . #womensmarch #womensrights #humanrights
