Myth 9. Your Personality. It was once believed that people with certain personality traits were particularly susceptible to cancer, such as neurotic people and introverts. Research has debunked this myth. However, certain traits are associated with behaviors that can raise or lower cancer risk. Highly health-conscious people are unlikely to engage in activities— like smoking, overeating, or basking in the sun too long— associated with cancer. People who pay less attention to diet and exercise may put themselves at higher risk for the disease.

Just some statistics: Over £6 mln raised for sick children since 2011. More than 350 children received our support. £3 mln required annually to pay for the meds for children in our care. Every penny counts. Donate and give life now (link in bio).

The Gala Organising Committee put together very bright and kind-hearted people. We are blessed to have @julianfarrow, the most knowledgeable Art, Luxury and Lifestyle Advisor in London, on the team. Julian has been helping Gift of Life for many years and each time he adds something unique and truly exciting to the charity auction, from a heavenly getaway in the Maldives to palaces in the Swiss Alpes to most luxurious stays in top cities like Paris, Milan or Geneva. We can't help thanking Julian for everything he does for the charity and children in our care. Julian, the Gala raised £500,000 for our cause and we could not do so well without you. Thanks a million! #GOLgala2019 #giftoflifecharity @naturalphotoportrait

@gift_of_life_charity and the Gala OrgCom express sincere gratitude to our friend and supporter @alina_davey. Alina has not only helped us greatly with the Gala auction donating a behind-the-scenes tour at Sotheby’s but also extensively promoted the event in the community of art lovers. Alina has been with us for many years, it is even hard to say precisely when our paths crossed. Since then she gave us a helping hand with numerous fundraisers and supported our good cause. Alina, the Gala raised £500,000 for the kids affected by cancer in Russia and we could not do it without you. Spasibo! #GOLgala2019 #giftoflifecharity @naturalphotoportrait

Vladislav Fagurel, 25 years old, Smolensk, Russia. As 11-year-old boy Vladislav was treated for aplastic anaemia. The treatment required regular blood transfusions and expensive drugs. Luckily, the therapy worked and in 2008 the final tests at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital appeared to the clear. Vladislav fully recovered from the disease. In 2016 Vladislav came to London to tell his story at the 6th annual Gift of Life Gala at the Savoy. Now, over 10 years later, Vladislav attended the 8th Gift of Life Gala evening at Mandarin Oriental in London as a volunteer. Thanks to all who donated to save Vladislav and other children like him! #10yearchallenge #10yearschallenge #10летназад

Great teamwork makes things happen. The Gift of Life team would not be able to succeed with the Gala without the help from our friends and supporters of many years Irina Kargina and Vladimir Tsarenkov. As a member of the Gala Organising Committee, Irina put in so much time and effort to provide exquisite lots for the auction and was very supportive of the Gala. With the kind help of Irina and Vladimir, we raised £500,000 for the children with cancer in our care. Knowing that these children will have a chance to recover from cancer is priceless. Thank you! @irinakargina06 #golgala2019

We cannot say how lucky we are to have kind-hearted and caring people on the Gift of Life Gala Organising Committee. We are pleased to have a chance to thank all of them, and today our gratitude goes to Natasha Tsukanov who has been extremely supportive of the event and also provided us with some money-cannot-buy, unique auction lots. Natasha and Igor Tsukanov made a big effort to help us raise £500,000 for the charity. This wonderful couple has been helping Gift of Life since our early ages, making sure that children in our care get the best cancer treatment available. Thank you so much, Natasha and Igor! #GOLgala2019 #giftoflifecharity

Galya about the past: “To many, the word “relapse” is scarier than the original diagnosis. You have to do it all again: return to the hospital, undergo treatment… ⠀ It really did turn out to be scarier. I was a teenager by that point. Just as my peers were starting to bloom, I had to once again part with my hair. To say that it troubled me would be a gross understatement. I had such a thick mop of hair after my first time in a hospital. But of course, that wasn’t so important. ⠀ The toughest part was the recognition that I’d have to immerse myself in treatment once again. Where at 10 I had been strong and resilient, a real fighter, during the relapse I found it much harder to keep my focus on beating the disease. And my treatment was much more intense than before. The chemotherapy left me with severe burns, anaphylactic shock and once even a mini-stroke. The treatment lasted much longer, and it was much harder to endure both mentally and physically”. ⠀ Scroll pictures to read what Galya is telling about the present time. She is happily married and this year started from the great achievement of her family - their own home. Our congratulations and the best wishes! ⠀ Read more (link in bio) #10yearchallenge #10yearschallenge #10летназад

THANK YOU post. The Gala of Gift of Life charity was concluded by a traditional auction, which has been leading for years by an actor and producer Igor Vernik. We can`t be grateful enough to Igor for the enthusiasm and exceptional talent of conducting the charity auction. Many saved lives are the result of Igor`s work. Thank you for your support, dear Igor.

Zhenya Vaneeva is 25. As a 15-year-old, she was hospitalised with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She went through 6 chemotherapy cycles and 2 radiation therapy cycles, and in December 2008 she was released from the hospital. In 2009 Zhenya was still recovering from the illness and gaining strength. Today, Zhenya comes to clinics not as a patient but as a member of the Podari Zhizn Foundation, where she began work as a press officer two years ago. Now, 10 years later, Zhenya recalls the past and shares her thoughts about the future...

On 14 January our trustee @lyuba.galkina celebrated her birthday. Let’s recall it today. Happy birthday, dear Lyuba! Using kindness and inspiration Lyubov has been changing people's lives for many years. May your dreams come true, Lyuba. May the Universe help you to never stop. С Днем рождения!
