We are thankful for the support from some of the biggest names in music and entertainment for our campaign for... #AStatueforMichaelHutchence We would like to thank and acknowledge the support of 'Men at work' frontman Colin Hay! Colin provided us with a letter of support.
Dear #AStatueForMichaelHutchence supporters, The following statement was made to Rhett Hutchence this morning by the Statue Team. This was on Rhett’s personal Facebook page and was in response to a further post about Michael’s statue. In light of recent events and to clarify the situation for all parties, we wanted to share this with you also Furthermore, Rhett is now free to comment here and view discussions if he so wishes. “Rhett, I would prefer this was private and we would have liked to have spoken to you personally, as I feel this has all become a side show for the amusement of some fans. I wish you would take our calls and would have responded to Shanon’s efforts to contact you some days ago through Private Messenger. We just want a statue for your brother. That’s all. You were a welcome part of the statue group for almost three years and we were very happy about that, truly. It was incredible, as fans who founded this campaign, to have you and Tina in the group with us. When you didn’t offer your views during those years or provide a statement of support during the years we tried in Sydney, we fully respected that and didn’t seek to push you. You are your own man. We respected your privacy and it appeared that your non action, meant that you didn’t want to participate. That was Ok with us too. It’s always been your choice. We have always tried to keep negativity off the page because we are a public campaign being scrutinised always. Not always easy, but we really try. After your lengthy outburst in the group which did not relate to the statue, we felt a duty to protect the campaign for your brother, Michael. I must add, this was not Tina’s decision. This was our decision which we took in Tina’s absence. I hope you understand and I am sorry your feelings were hurt. The door remains open for your to join us, Rhett. Please reach out to myself or Shanon any time and we will speak to you privately. I just feel that adding to this publicly is more for other people’s amusement, and that isn’t why I, or any of the fans who founded this campaign for your brother have dedicated the last three years of our lives to trying to make this happen.
'A Statue for Michael' This is a Hand Carved Antler statue of my brother Michael. It is his classic Live Baby Live, Wembley Stadium pose, as a skeleton. This would be my choice for a Statue of him, except not raised. On ground level. Down to earth like he was. I believe Michael would approve of this depicting him. He never liked being in a pedestal, he preferred getting down and deep with normal people, he was fascinated by them. A skeleton would show that underneath our colours, we are all exactly the same, and that by peeling the flesh away, it's everybody's statue, as we are all up there. It would state his belief that we all have wings, and through practice, hard work and determination, we can all learn to fly. Then it would honour Michael in more ways than one. Xx.
Our agenda here at #AStatueForMichaelHutchence is clear...The name says it all! For more than three years, we have worked daily, along with many of you, to help to bring this tribute to #MichaelHutchence to fruition. Without the backing of Michael’s sister, Tina, we would not have made such fantastic progress. This is about ensuring that Michael and his legacy are remembered with truth and integrity and that future generations will have a permanent reminder of what an incredibly beautiful and talented human being Michael was. It is sad to think there is a whole new generation, many of whom have never even heard of Michael. Thank you to all of you who support the campaign and our page with love and an open heart. You are appreciated more than you know. Peace, Love and Michael Hutchence forever! ❤️✌️ Tina Hutchence Shanon Clark Steele Vincent Lamaro Robbie Carroll
The #AStatueForMichaelHutchence team wanted to send out a special thank you to Michael’s sister, @christinahutchence We are so very fortunate to have Tina at the very heart of the #AStatueForMichaelHutchence campaign. Tina has helped to drive this initiative to honour her brother forward with great strength, determination and passion. Whilst some may take it for granted, we, as a fan community, are very blessed that Tina has chosen to share so many of her personal photos of Michael with us. Tina is incredibly generous with her time, always prepared to answer questions from group members keen to know more about Michael. Her book, Michael My Brother Lost Boy Of INXS was a labour of love which many of us have enjoyed reading. Tina has embraced the opportunity to shed light on her brother’s struggles with his Traumatic Brain Injury, finally bringing the truth to the forefront. It has also given her the chance to share memories of her beloved brother with us from a truly unique perspective, as someone who knew and loved Michael for his entire life. Tina’s mission is clear. She works tirelessly and travels extensively to ensure that her brother’s legacy is accurately maintained. Tina was recently in New York to support Richard Lowenstein at the premiere of his new documentary #MystifyMichaelHutchence at the Tribeca Film Festival. “I am promoting a book...as it does away with all of the nasty lies about my brother and tells the truth. Michael's legacy deserved better after being raked over the coals by most of the press and I made a promise to our parents that I would turn things around. I would hope that if you have a sibling you would do the same if you had the chance. We all deserve to leave this world in truth, not tabloid trash. Michael's talent alone apart from the happiness and joy he brought to his audiences deserve this”. Tina, we just wanted to say that we, like so many others, love, appreciate and admire you. We fully support your goal to make certain that Michael’s legacy is preserved with nothing but truth and integrity. We truly hope that Michael’s statue will go some way to ensuring that for generations to come, he will never be forgotten. ❤️
