Can you LOSE FAT & BUILD MUSCLE at the same time? This is the 🦄 unicorn. This is the magical thing everyone wants. But is it possible? Yes it is. Can YOU do it? Depends.. There’s 4 real positions you’d need to be in to be able to both build muscle + lose fat at the same time. - Steroid user. If you are using a performance enhancing drug, then this will allow your body to be both anabolic + have fat burning properties. - Beginner. If you’re just getting started with your journey, there’s something referred to as ‘beginner gains’. And it has legitimacy. It won't last forever, and how long it lasts is very individual. - Very overweight or obese. The high volume of fat on your body means plenty of stored energy available to supply muscles with the fuel required to grow. - Time off training / de conditioned or new to scientific training & nutrition approaches. If you’re a conditioned lifter, & you have some time off & then come back, it’s possible to quickly rebuild lost muscle due to ‘muscle memory’ AND lose fat. Or if you’ve never followed a properly structured plan using science based principles, the first time you start to use these methods its common to see muscle gains & fat loss simultaneously. SO - what if you don't fit in one of the 4 categories above? Can it be done? It is possible, but is rarer for most everyday people. For most, you need to be in a caloric surplus to BUILD muscle, & a caloric deficit to LOSE fat. What do you do? Pick 1 at a time. I use an analogy about pressing the brake + accelerator at the same time. You’ll kind of get a little bit of both but not really much of either and you’ll be damaging the car along the way, wearing out parts. The easiest way would be to hit the accelerator, when you come to traffic lights hit the brake. That’s the most efficient, quickest, safest way from point A to B. Same with your body.. I’m currently in a slight surplus + reverse dieting to build both my metabolic rate & muscle while it’s winter. I’m only up about... ➡️continued in comments 👇🏼

Nutrition 101 💪 - The old saying ‘abs are made in the kitchen’ is true! - Your efforts in the gym won’t show as much or as well unless you get your nutrition sorted! - I’ve seen different percentages splits between our training and our nutrition for getting results but the main one I see is 30% training 70% nutrition, which goes to show just how much attention we should be paying to what we eat, or at the how much we eat! - So, quick rundown on basic nutrition 👇 - 〽️We break our calorie intake down into 3 macronutrients: fats, carbohydrates and protein. 〽️If we eat more calories than we burn we out weight on. 〽️If we burn more calories than we eat we lose weight. 〽️Each macro has a specific unit of calories: 1g fat has 9 calories, 1g carbohydrates has 4 calories, 1g of protein has 4 calories and alcohol has 7 calories per gram and has no nutritional benefits. - To work out the amount of calories you need to be consuming for your goals there are loads of macro calculators online that can work that out for you, giving you your daily calorie goal and macro goals, or just let me know and I’ll try and help! 😊
Have you ever had one of the moments where you look in the mirror and think to yourself, “Fuck this. I’ve had enough!”. . And then you take ACTION in the moment. You begin to generate momentum and end up taking your life in a whole new direction. . THAT is the moment when the pain of staying the same has become greater than the pain of change. . The thing is, for most of us change is scary and painful. There’s too much uncertainty involved with changing your body, or your job, or your relationship or the place where you live or your friendship group. . So we just choose to stay the same. Even if we’re unhappy with where we’re at and we know we could be doing more for ourselves and bringing so much more happiness and fulfilment into our lives. . Because our current situation is familiar to us, it feels safe - and therefore we accept it as being okay. . This is why most people never actually change much about their lives. . However, every now and then you have one of those moments where the scales tip. . Suddenly the uncertainty and pain involved with transforming becomes LESS than the pain you’re experiencing by staying exactly where you are. . This is the moment that you have that shift. The moment that you decide to take action and move to another country, or book that holiday, or quit your job, start your side hustle, join a gym or start a diet.. whatever is it! . I think the lesson here is to embrace the uncomfortable. Embrace the fear of uncertainty. Because on the other side of that “pain” could be everything that you’ve ever wanted 👊.

In doing this we are developing a severe negative relationship with food. ▪️Demonising our favourite foods will only encourage us to hate the experience. Eat it, bloody enjoy it. Don't regret • ♥️ ▪️When purchasing pricey products, as I've got older I now think of the 'cost per use'. ▪️For example, you may think paying £100+ for a mattress topper is a lot but think about it, you spend a third of your life in bed. If there's anything worth investing in, it's your sleep. Plus it's a one off payment. ▪️But add up on what £100-200 a week costs to go out in a year... 😳 ▪️Way more expensive than a gym membership... or even me as your PT 😉 • 📉 ▪️ This is very common and the reason behind a lot of people failing. When you lose weight it will always be easiest at the start. ▪️Don't expect the scales to drop at the same rate every week (one of the reasons not to use them frequently or to use other methods). ▪️You may have to take into account metabolic adaptation, menstrual cycle etc. ▪️Think of it like this, if you lose a lb BLOODY WELL DONE YOU LOST WEIGHT! Keep it up 👏🏾 • 🤯 ▪️This one cracks me up. So this person wants to lose weight for a reason, no doubt they didn't track their food and probably think they're undereating. ▪️Then they shit themselves when they see the number of how many calories they have to eat. Calorie awareness is crucial IMO, it isn't unhealthy, it's the start of becoming healthy, not an unhealthy obsession. ▪️ And let's say you calculated/the calculator was wrong (they can be inaccurate by 20%). Then you have the power to change it e.g. -100kcals. ▪️You are setting yourself up for the win. • 👨🏼💻 ▪️I cannot emphasise more on the importance of 'staying fidgety'. Spending as least time sedentary as possible in a day. ▪️Realise that going to the gym, spin or bootcamp can only burn so many calories. ▪️ I'm not saying don't train, but if you miss a session then your steps could have your back just as well. • • Have an awesome weekend Chaps + Chapettes XOX 🦀

[PROGRESS REPORT POST] I’m happy because officially I’m now a 2XL as opposed to the 5-4XL I’ve been rocking for the past 3 years. I’ll soon post a pic of me wearing my old sweater and y’all omg the difference is unbelievable. Today’s goal was to stay above 140 bpm for at LEAST 50 min and because of this I was able to beat my personal mile record by 1 minute! I haven’t been going to the gym, but I’m beginning to enjoy walking and running (something I thought I would NEVER do) 10,000 daily steps is a goal everyone just starting should have! It’s hard at the beginning but eventually your body becomes adjusted to the exercise and you will eventually enjoy it!
