This week, my students are concluding the fractions module from the Engage NY curriculum and I purchased this cute winter ❄️ fractions activity from @teacherspayteachers for them to complete. In this activity, students had to come up with as many equivalent fractions to match the fraction listed in the bottom of their snow globe. Yesterday, UGA’s Chemistry Club prez, Ryan Maynard, came to visit our 5th graders to talk about density of liquids and emulsifiers. Our kiddos were blown away by his demo with the density column. I'm playing catch up for the #teacherlovephotochallenge here's day 17: my teacher bag. Bag and cup are from @erincondren. Tell me I'm not the only teacher with a bit of a monogramming problem? Although having a personalized coffee mug definitely helps when you leave it in the teachers lounge, someone might even bring it to you lol. I always make sure to have chapstick, hand lotion, and a good pen in my bag. Not pictured essentials also include a bottle of water and snacks :)
What was once a slideshow of notes, is now a stations activity. Instead of students sitting at their desks, staring towards the front of the classroom copying notes from slides, they’re up and moving around. Same notes, different method of delivery. I provided students with a graphic organizer for their notes as they went around the classroom, and they had a couple of questions to respond to following the notes. We practiced perseverance and problem solving today when solving addition and subtraction problems with multiple digits. Students were given $300 to spend at the store. They had to work together to try to get as close to $300 without going over.
